Impact On The Region

Stakeholder Awareness Video - Digital and Video Book Campaign
Over the past two years TINKER TAYLOR has produced more than 20 films for Aston University, promoting various study programmes through inspiring video campaigns. Earlier this year an ambitious project called ‘Impact on the Region’ was added to this list.

The Brief

The aim of this 3-minute film was to showcase some of Aston’s most inspiring graduates: those who have taken the valuable lessons and morals the university has instilled in them and leveraged these to change the world for the better.

After working extensively with the university to research its most inspiring alumni stories, we decided on three case studies for the film which amply testified to the breadth of Aston’s regional impact: the founder of a social enterprise providing development opportunities to young people, a young Aston researcher helping develop an app to detect Parkinson’s disease earlier than currently possible, and the people behind a company driving down CO2 emissions through AI-driven optimised energy usage.

The Approach

The most challenging part of this project was bringing the busy entrepreneurs together in locations that are as inspiring and uplifting as their stories, all within a timescale of under one month. To make sure we took up as little of their precious time as possible, each case study was filmed in a single day, in convenient yet cinematic spots around Birmingham and the university. As you’d expect, the travel between locations and limited time in each place necessitated rigorous planning and discipline so as not to interrupt the creative ‘flow’ on the day, as well as making sure the footage would look stunning and carry natural, comfortable performances from our contributors.

The Results

The responses to this film so far have been very positive. The film was previewed at Aston’s annual Charter Dinner, where it received praise from the Chancellor, Pro-Chancellor, Executive Dean and Executive Director of Organisational Development. We also designed and delivered a video book for the film, which is an incredibly effective physical marketing tool that Aston has shared with key stakeholders to celebrate their incredibly inspiring alumni.

We are excited to see Impact on the Region inspire other entrepreneurs to make a difference for the better, and increase recruitment at a university where creativity and innovation play such key roles. Furthermore, we are thrilled that our compelling, interesting and emotionally engaging video content communicates Aston University’s Strategy to be the UK’s leading university for students aspiring to succeed in business and the professions, where original research, enterprise and inspiring teaching delivers local and global impact.
