Police Federation for Northern Ireland - #WeAreYou Campaign

Tinker Taylor partnered with the PFNI to produce a powerful multi-channel campaign aimed at strengthening public-police relations. The award-winning video campaign was an outstanding success, driving meaningful engagement and impact.

The campaign reached 1/5 of the Northern Ireland Population in just four weeks. "There is a real and tangible connection, with the public acknowledging the emotional difficulties officers have to endure as a result of these films."

Brief

The Police Federation for Northern Ireland sought to bridge the gap between the public and the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) by challenging perceptions and showcasing the humanity behind the uniform. They wanted a hard-hitting video campaign with a shock factor that emphasised that these officers are ordinary people doing extraordinary jobs.

Creative

Given the complex political history in Northern Ireland, we centred the campaign on the universal concept of family to foster connection and empathy. We conceptualised and designed the #WeAreYou campaign which inspires a bond between police officers and the community, particularly focusing on relatable figures like ‘mums on the playground.’ The goal was to begin bridging the divide between officers and the public they serve, showing that beneath the uniform, officers are parents, husbands, wives and children—sharing the same hopes and fears as everyone else.

To drive the campaign, we produced a series of three powerful films that juxtapose the challenging experiences of police officers on duty with their roles at home with their families. Each film contrasts the crimes they confront with their personal interactions with loved ones, delivering the message: “We aren’t just the uniform, we are you.” The films, titled #WeAreMothers, #WeAreFathers, and #WeAreGranddaughters, are the heart of the #WeAreYou campaign.

We were proud to assemble an impressive crew and cast for this project, including a BAFTA-winning producer and the art department from Game of Thrones.

We then developed a multi-channel distribution campaign, and designed the #WeAreYou identity & all visual assets.

The campaign won numerous awards, including a Royal Television Society and a 'Gold' and the Chairman's Recognition Award at The Drum.

Results

#WeAreYou garnered phenomenal online engagement and received an overwhelmingly positive response from politicians, officers, and the public.

Officially launched at the Long Gallery in the historic Stormont Parliament Buildings, we then successfully managed a high-impact multi-channel campaign, spanning a dedicated Website, Google Ads, Social Media, and Cinema Distribution, to drive meaningful conversations and strengthen public-police relations. In just four weeks, the campaign delivered exceptional engagement:

  • 562,998 total video views, with strong engagement in the UK (primarily NI) and internationally (primarily the USA).

  • 2.6M+ Google banner ads delivered, generating 62,046 video engagements and 2,210 website clicks.

  • 649,072 total social media reach, with over 250,000 video views through paid and organic engagement.

  • Significant growth across platforms:

    • 127% increase in impressions (114,117 → 258,534)

    • 734% increase in engagements (5,389 → 9,352)

  • Cinema Impact: We Are Fathers screened to 100,450 viewers.

This campaign’s rapid success demonstrates the power of strategic, multi-channel storytelling, delivering measurable impact and widespread audience engagement.
