A powerful and poignant short film commemorating 50 years of SWA’s work, guiding viewers through its journey – from its first, hand-painted banner and stand in a community hall, to the expansive services and facilities it offers today.
We were honored to be approached by Media Trust to create a powerful film for the SWA, with the goal of engaging prospective donors, showcasing the significant support that SWA provides to its community, and celebrating the milestone of its 50th anniversary.
During our initial discussions with the SWA team, it quickly became clear that a period film, which journeys through each decade of the SWA’s history, would be a compelling approach. We crafted a script designed to guide the viewer through the many facets of the SWA’s impactful work, while also shedding light on the lives of the women who have been affected by domestic violence across Staffordshire.
In shaping this narrative, we intentionally adopted a cyclical structure. The story begins with the first woman ever to attend an SWA meeting at a community hall, and then, at the end, she is still working for the SWA fifty years later. This structure was chosen to emphasise that while the violence remains a persistent issue, those who stand against it – like the SWA – will continue their fight for as long as it’s needed, showcasing both the enduring nature of the problem and the unwavering commitment to combating it.
During the filming process, we were immensely grateful for the generosity of everyone who contributed their time and resources to our project, entirely free of charge. From vintage warehouses and passionate local car enthusiasts, to the countless individuals who lent a hand, each person played a vital role in bringing this vision to life. Our dedicated team, cast and crew worked tirelessly to ensure everything needed for the film came together – and we couldn’t be more proud of the final results.
We’ve produced a film that not only commemorates the SWA’s 50th anniversary but also serves as a timeless resource for the charity, illustrating the enduring significance of their work for years to come.
The film premiered in a cinema event, attended by both charities and key stakeholders, where it was described as ‘incredibly powerful’ and ‘perfectly impactful’ by those in attendance.
Most importantly, the film has been launched across social media platforms, spreading a vital message to women everywhere that support is available for those who need it.

"Sam is the safest pair of hands you could hope for. From the moment she took [this project] on, she ran with it. She's a director's dream because she fights for everything you want.
